If you haven’t sold it yet, I think that’s a pretty strong indication that your price probably is too high. That’s not a reason for people to be jerks to you about it, but you know:

The sad reality of “what it should be worth” vs. the market. The market is a douchebag sometimes.

I don’t know why you’re getting the hate, and don’t know GTO values, but any time you’re in a hurry to sell, you have to be ready to take less than you hoped for, and maybe even less than it’s worth in order to get it sold.

It might be time to cut the price to get the TVR paid off, if you don’t have another source for the payoff. Can anyone give you a short term loan?

Good luck - hope you get it sold for a fair price!

In my part of the world, car sales seem a bit slower in the winter. People are still recovering from expensive holidays, tax returns might not have arrived yet, and the weather is shitty. You might have better luck in a few months, or you might need to lower the price if you need to sell it now. My plans to buy it with my lottery winnings haven't panned out so far.

It’s tough selling specialty cars. If it’s not something regular folks would just search for when deciding “hmm what car should I buy next?” then you’re limited to a relatively small group of enthusiasts – especially if the car goes for a premium over whatever blandmobile a regular non-car person would buy a car for.

So if you have time you can stay firm on your price if you truly believe it is fair. You’re not trying to sell it to the entire market, you’re just trying to find that one person it’s the right price for. Which means if you don’t have the time, unfortunately you will have to reduce your price.

It was infuriating when I sold my E30 last year. It was so clean, with over a decade under my ownership and stacks and stacks of maintenance records. I had it listed for probably 2 months – and only had about 10 people in total contact me, I was freaking out given how little interest I was getting. 8 out of those 10 were either not serious, not willing to pay anywhere near what I was asking, or basically had the mentality of “why would I buy an E30 for $XXX when I can buy a MUCH newer BMW like an E36 or E46 for the same price or less?!” To their point – I completely agree. In fact * I * replaced that E30 with an E46 for thousands less, but IF you want an E30, and a clean one at that, this is what you’re going to have to pay.

When the right buyer did come along it was glorious. We exchanged over a dozen detailed emails where we were both totally honest about everything, and then one day she flew up, test drove the car for an hour, and we shook hands. Stop over at the bank to exchange funds for title, and she drove off with no drama.

So either hang tight (and double check to make sure your price is aligned with the market), or reduce your price if you need it gone soon is the unfortunate reality you’re facing.

Not to be a douche but listen to the GTO comments. They know what these cars are worth better than, say, I or others on oppo would. Maybe even price lower for a quick sale?

Modifications are only valuable to enthusiasts who really understand what you’ve done and know the history of the car. T hey make average buyers think that the car has been abused. Also, many people will jump to KBB to determine the market value. For your GTO with the standard options, the price you are asking is well above the market.

This is called economics. The value of your car in your mind is higher than 99% of everyone else.  Usually this means you aren't willing to sell.  But instead you're wanting to sell and the economy is telling you it isn't worth what you want to sell it for. Hence why you can't sell it.  The market is never wrong it's the sellers that miss the mark.

Don’t settle for less. That's a beautiful car and worth a lot. I paid 12k for mine and don't regret it. Worth every penny.

As the owner of a GTO, no one is paying over Kelly’s blue book for a modified car. You may get away with aftermarket rims and exaust, but once you get into expensive   engine mods, you are looking at a tiny fraction of buyers who are happy buying a modded car done by someone else.  Lesson here is once you start adding engine modifications, never expect to get a dime back you paid for them when you sell the car.
